“Every season is one of becoming, but not always one of blooming. Be gracious with your ever-evolving self.”-B. Oakman
It only snowed twice this winter,
but for months it felt as though a
blizzard was happening inside of me.
I felt so cold and distant.
Like if people were shades of colors-
I didn’t know where on the rainbow to call home.
The days felt heavy.
But the days are longer now.
I feel life blooming all around me.
I’ve been waking up to the warmth of the sun of my skin.
Weeds had begun sprouting through the cracks in sidewalks.
Birds flirtatiously sing to one another and the air has a lightness to it.
The sky is a shade of blue that reminds me of the ocean-
I can’t wait for the first visit of the summer.
Winter allowed me to let the leaves fall that were no longer mine.
Spring reminds me I am rooted and I will continue to grow.
Sometimes, it is okay to feel like a faint, gray shadow of a person
for, like trees and their leaves, we change with the seasons.
We live everyday,
in whatever form we are in,
as best as we know how.
Be grateful for every season,
for each one has purpose.
